Privacy Policy

How Listings Hub collects, uses and protects your information.

Six Verbs

Almost everything a privacy policy has to say can be filed under six verbs: collect, use, share, keep, protect, and control. This Privacy Policy for our website is built on them. The first five describe what we may do. The sixth describes what you can do.

Two things should be said first. One is that our website may be simpler than the text implies. We talk about sign-ups, public contributions, analytics, and adverts because many websites have them, and whatever we say about them holds only if our website has them too. The other is that this Privacy Policy is about our website alone. We cannot speak for other websites, even ones we link to.

As for the law, this Privacy Policy is intended to address the privacy and data-protection requirements applicable to our website. Those may include the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR and applicable UK data-protection legislation, the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), other U.S. state privacy laws, cookie and electronic communications rules, and other national, state, or regional privacy regulations. We address each where it applies. We do not say that all of them apply to you, since that depends on where you are, what our website does, what information is involved, and which technologies are used.

Collect

What arrives automatically

Your browser gives our website certain details whenever it loads a page. We may collect the IP address, the browser type, the device type, and the operating system. We may log the referring URL, the pages visited, and the date and time. The IP address may tell us your general geographic area. If cookies and similar technologies or analytics tools are running, they may collect further data.

What you decide to give

Nothing else is collected unless you provide it. You might send a message through a contact form. You might register, if registration is available. You might submit content for publication, listings, bookmarks, press releases, directories, comments, profiles, or similar functionality, if our website has it.

What a submission can contain

On a website that takes submissions, users may send in articles, business listings, directory listings, press releases, URLs, website submissions, bookmarks, comments, profiles, business information, contact information, images, documents, and other content.

Use

We may use what we collect in the following ways, as far as each is relevant to our website:

  • To operate and maintain our website and provide its functionality
  • To process submissions, review them, publish those that are approved, and manage listings
  • To respond when someone makes an inquiry
  • To prevent spam, fraud, and abuse and to maintain security
  • To carry out analytics and performance measurement, understand usage, and improve functionality
  • To comply with legal and regulatory requirements and enforce our policies
  • To support advertising, where applicable

Legal bases

If the GDPR, the UK GDPR, or a similar law applies, we need a legal basis for each use. We may rely on consent, on performance of a contract, on legitimate interests, or on compliance with legal obligations. The specific processing activity determines which.

Cookies

Cookies are one of the tools we may use. They may be essential, functional, analytics, advertising, or third-party cookies, and they may be accompanied by pixels, tags, and similar tracking technologies. The selection varies from website to website, and ours may not use every kind.

Analytics

We may use third-party analytics services to understand how visitors interact with our website and to improve its performance.

Advertising

We may show third-party advertisements, though our website does not necessarily do so. Where we do, advertising partners and advertising networks may use advertising cookies, device identifiers, and other advertising technologies, and the advertisements may be contextual, personalized, or interest-based.

Share

With the public, when you ask us to publish

Publishing is a form of sharing, and the widest one. Information you voluntarily submit for public display may be published on our website, where visitors can access it. Search engines may index and cache it. Third parties may view it and share it through external websites. It may be copied or redistributed outside our control.

That is why we ask you not to submit confidential, private, or sensitive personal information in content intended for publication.

With service providers

We may use external hosting providers, analytics providers, advertising providers, security services, spam-prevention tools, content delivery networks, embedded media providers, social media services, technical service providers, and other vendors. They may process information in accordance with their own privacy policies and legal obligations.

With advisers, authorities, and successors

Where applicable and legally permitted, we may disclose information to professional advisers, to legal authorities, courts, regulators, and law enforcement, and to successors in connection with a merger, acquisition, restructuring, sale, or transfer of assets.

Sale or sharing in the legal sense

Some laws define "sale" and "sharing" to include certain disclosures for advertising. If activities conducted through our website constitute a sale or sharing of personal information under applicable law, eligible users may have the right to opt out.

A word on external links

Following a link is not us sharing your information, but it does take you somewhere we have no say. Links to external websites may appear in articles, press releases, directory entries, bookmarks, and listings. We do not control the privacy practices of those websites. They have their own privacy policies, and you should review them before providing personal information.

Keep

We keep personal information only while there is a reasonable need for it. A need may arise from providing functionality, processing submissions, maintaining published content, administering our website, security, fraud prevention, recordkeeping, legal obligations, resolving disputes, or enforcing agreements. Once no such need remains, we have no reason to keep the information and do not intend to.

Where it is kept

Information may be processed, stored, or transferred in countries other than your country of residence. Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, we may use them.

Protect

Safeguards

We may use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect personal information from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access. We cannot promise they will never fail. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

Sensitive information

Protection works best when sensitive data is not collected in the first place. Please avoid submitting government identification numbers, financial account credentials, medical information, or other highly sensitive personal details through public submission forms, unless we specifically request them and they are necessary.

Children

Our website is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children below the age required by applicable law. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has submitted personal information, please contact us through the Contact Us page.

Control

Cookies and advertising

You can manage cookies in your browser settings, through cookie controls on our website where we provide them, and through consent management mechanisms where applicable. You may also have advertising choices, including opt-out mechanisms required by applicable law.

Browser signals

We may recognize Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where applicable law requires. Do Not Track signals have no common standard, and our website may not respond to them unless required by law.

All of these rights depend on applicable law, may be subject to exceptions, and may require identity verification.

How to exercise control

Send any request about access, correction, deletion, data portability, restriction, objection, consent withdrawal, advertising opt-outs, sale or sharing opt-outs, or other legally available privacy rights through the Contact Us page on our website. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically because of changes in our website's functionality, data-processing practices, technologies, cookies, third-party services, business practices, applicable laws, or regulatory requirements. We will post the revised Privacy Policy on our website. This Privacy Policy becomes effective when published on our website and may be revised from time to time.
